Work towards promoting equality in education and the society has been on-going for years. Equality affects every aspect of society, and practices that promote equality may sometimes be difficult to recognize.
The KoKiVa project promotes gender equality in education and work life through work life visits for upper secondary school students. Student counsellors, subject teachers, employer representatives and other adults have the responsibility to provide young people examples of educational and occupational opportunities regardless of gender (Olsson & Martiny, 2018). Instead, we believe that young people should be encouraged to consider education and occupation based on their strengths and interests (Hidi & Renninger, 2006; Kuusi et al., 2009). Equality has a far-reaching impact on career progression and salary (Teräsaho & Närvi, 2017). In addition, equality work can support economic growth (European Institute for Gender Equality).
